The olive tree has been cultivated in the hills of Sinalunga since the Middle Ages. In the municipal statutes of 1553 it was absolutely forbidden to plant olive trees in vineyards and a license specifically issued by the Chamberlain of “Asinalonga” was required to own olive groves.
The unmistakable taste of our oil is linked to our land and to the hard work our farmers put in the fields. In the Municipality of Sinalunga there are a total of three oil mills and since 1996 it has been honoured with the plaque "Città dell’Olio” (Olive oil Town), a prestigious award issued by the “Città dell’Olio” National Association.
