Tenuta La Fratta

Located in the plain on the slopes of the hills that limit the western part of the Sienese Val di Chiana, it is located a few kilometers from the main town of the municipality.

Today's village is located within a historic estate, built on what was once one of the most important roads of ancient Rome: the  consular road Cassia and, more precisely, halfway between the mansiones (sort of posthouse) Manliana and Ad Mensulas.

The first certain information on the estate dates back to 1208, through the imposition of a tax by the government of the Republic of Siena; in the 14th century on the other hand, the existence of two churches is attested, one dedicated to San Giovanni, the other to San Lorentino de Fratta, both replaced by the new chapel of San Michele.
During the 13th century, the well-known bandit and Ghibelline noble Ghino di Tacco was born on this estate, at the time wanted by the Republic of Siena.

Tenuta la Fratta is testimony to how architecture manages to create harmony with the surrounding nature. Here you can't help but be enchanted by the beauty of the agricultural outbuildings which are modeled, in structure, on the manor house designed by Baldassarre Peruzzi in the 16th century, behind which are hidden treasures such as the Italian garden, the 16th century well and the Church of San Michele, where a fresco by Sodoma is preserved.

There is no better place than La Fratta of Sinalunga to learn about the native bovine breed of Valdichiana, the Chianina. The animal as we know it today is the result of a selection started by Professor Ezio Marchi, a native of Bettolle.
In 1934, Tenuta La Fratta obtained by Royal Decree the title of selection unit and registration in the herd book of the Chianina breed.
