Sinalunga: La Via Lauretana

Via Lauretana is an ancient Etruscan-Roman road that connects Cortona to Montepulciano and Siena. Previously used as a trade route towards the Adriatic Sea by the Etruscans, it was later expanded by the Romans. The Lauretana crossing the areas of Siena and Arezzo was a very busy road until the 17th century, but the number of wayfarers and pilgrims has decreased over the century, since it’s become an essentially devotional route.
